LLL Supports Safe Bed-Sharing (December 2008)
The international breastfeeding support organisation, La Leche League, has spoken out in favour of safe bed sharing for breastfeeding mothers and babies.
Last week Wellington coroner Garry Evans and others called for babies to sleep separately from their mothers, claiming that bed sharing increases the risk of infant death.

Edwina Froehlich of Inverness, Illinois, co-founder of La Leche League International and co-author of The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, which has over 2 million copies in print, died at 5 am on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Northwest Community hospital in Arlington Heights after suffering a stroke on May 25.

La Leche League greets updated infant feeding guidelines with mixed feelings
The release by the Ministry of Health of the updated Food and Nutrition Guidelines for Healthy Infants and Toddlers (Aged 0-2) has been met with a mixed response from La Leche League New Zealand.
"We are delighted that the Ministry of Health is now recommending that the WHO Child Growth Standards be used to chart and assess growth. These will enable more reliable assessment of child growth patterns than the New Zealand growth references that they replace", says Barbara Sturmfels, Director of La Leche League New Zealand.
